Post subject: ***NEED ADVICE ON FLOOR TILE ADHESIVE IN SMALL HEAD***

[/b]Can anyone give me advice on what type of tile adhesive to use on our bathroom floor? It is a small area about 2.5 x 2.5 feet and the tiles themselves are pretty small. Also, there is a rubber-like floor down now that is very glued down, can I go over it or should I remove it to the fiberglass? It seems if I score it a bit it would be more likely to adhere to the tile adhesive than the fiberglass. I assume it may flex with the boat a little or may not.....any advice?

Jane

I owned a flooring company and I think I can help although I never tiled a boat. First off the current rubber floor should stay. When we did installs on new concrete we always used a rubber membrane so that cracks/shifts in the concrete would not transfer to the ceramic. My suggestion would be to scuff it up with 80 grit sand paper then tile over it.

Caution if the floor in question has a lot of flex when you walk on it you still might have trouble. If it is pretty firm then you can go to a store like home depot and ask what to use for your application. You will tell the clerk you are going to tile over a membrane and they will give you the right stuff. Second option is use liquid nails it can be used to stick to anything. All you have to do is coat the back of each tile, press it in place and just leave it for at least 24 hours.

Added tip you can use colored caulk insted of grout. The caulk will flex with the floor where grout may crack and pop out. Also the caulk is less likely to stain.
