AVG software - Any experience here?

I've used the "freebie" AVG off and on a few times recently, and had no
problems with it. It seems to take less of a hit on performance than
some other more fully bodied suites.

I use it, and like it alot. Not intrusive.

Been using the free edition on three PCs here with no problems. I have
installed it on several friends machines with no reported problems.

I had it installed on my mothers computer, and she never got a virus,
but she is a low risk user. I changed from AVG to Avast when she
purchased a new computer due to a better review in one of the magazines
I read.

AVG and Avast are both considered light weight, small footprint AV and
do a fair job of catching virus, but might be slow to update databases
with new viruses.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been the highest rated, and is priced similar
to Norton.

I used McAfee because it is free from my ISP. It has a large footprint,
but does a great job.

We use Zone Alarm along with a router that is shut tighter than a..
Norton has never done any good by us, and McAffe takes more resources
than AOL!

I have used AVG in the past. I seem to recall it affecting my boot speed and
or program load/run time. Sorry that's all I remember and improvements may
have been made to the software since. I have been using Avast for the last
couple of years and have no complaints about it. It even found an attempted
invasion a few months ago.

I have used the free version for several years, and am completely
satisfied with it. As to a firewall, I have used Zone Alarm free version
also for several years. Both products serve my three networked home
computers well. Beats the devil out of the footprints of MacAfee,
Norton, et al, which I have also tried

And the price is right.

FWIW, The Grisoft AVG Anti-virus was the lowest rated of the most recently
rated anti-virus products.

I've been using the McAfee suite for several years, and I've not, ever,
(knock on wood) had a virus.

Even AVG "light" updates its virii database every day on my laptop.

AVG updates it's data base just about every day automatically at a time the
user elects.

That doesn't mean that AVG updates THEIR database as regularly and
thoroughly as some.

At home, mine usually updates itself some time in the middle of the
night or so. i think I ahve it set for something like 3AM, but what
they do on their side... I don't know..
