I attempted to adjust the coupler on my 90 kawasaki 550. When I realized it
much harder than it sounds.
I quit before I even touched a shim.

Connor,
The alignment is not all that difficult on the 550. Get a 6"
straightedge ruler or other type of flat metal. You check the alignment
in 3 places on the couplers, across the top, and across each side. If
the alignment is correct, the straightedge will be flat and touching
each coupler. If it is not, the straightedge will have a gap under it
or seesaw across the couplers. Add/remove shims or move engine until it
is correct.
