I'm looking for a source to learn real basic lofting to design a canoe.
I'll have to get my ideas onto stations to wood strip the boat.

I have two, "Lofting", by Allan Vaitses, and "Ship and Aircraft Fairing
and Development", by
SS Rable. Both are interesting from a "classical" perspective, where
these things were
done manually on a drafting table. Perhaps you could better spend your
time learning a
simple CAD program, which will certainly be more accurate. The books
are recently reprinted
and should be readily available. In any case, the CAD program probably
uses a lot of the
same algorithms, saving you a lot of T square time.

Gil Gilpatrick's book on "Building a Strip Canoe", Jerry Stelmok's book
on "Building the Maine Guide Canoe" and Stelmok and Thurlow's book on
"The Wood and Canvas Canoe: A Complete Guide to Its History,
Construction, Restoration, and Maintenance" should get you started and
they are great reads as well. The first and the last come with plans
for canoes. All are available at Amazon.com, if not at your local
library. I've met Gilpatrick and Thurlow and you could not ask for
nicer, more competent guys. Thurlow also runs North Woods Canoe
Company where you can get everything you need to build a wood and
canvas model canoe (far more serviceable than a stripper).
