How tough is it to replace the alternator belt on my Merc I/O. It looked
simple but then I realized it was impossible to get ytuhen new belt
around the main pulley.
Thanks

Is this a 2.5/3.0 litre? If so, some older models had a removable spacer
block on the front mount that permitted changing the belt without
removing the mount. Most, however, require suspending the engine, and
removing the mount to swap out the belt.

Managed to get it done, removing the spacer and jacking the engine back
into position with a bottle jack. It seems to be a convoluted design.
You'd think they'd make it simpler.
