Just for info, and I assure you I have no connection, there is a guy
on ebay (UK) selling electric boat winches for £40 new. I bid for one
and £40 was the finished price. It arrived today. It actually says
"boat winch" on it and can cope with 5000lb water based load or 2000
rolling load dropping to just over 1000lb load on a 45' incline. It
says suitable for 18' boats. It has a tow bar attachment and croc
clips for the battery connection.

If you are interested, just do a search for "power winch" and you'll
find them...
