I built a Westsail 32 from a bare hull in California about
20 years ago. It has been in Mexico ever since. Now that
I'm living in Victoria I'd like to bring her home.

Can anyone tell me what sort of duties and taxes I would
have to pay?

For sure you will need to pay GST and PST. Not sure about Duty. Boats
built in the USA are duty-free but you would have to check on the situation
with Mexico. You might be able to say it was built in the USA since it was
owner-built. Would you have a USA address that you could use?

It WAS built in the US. How would the value be determined for GST & PST?

Oops, sorry about that. Only "Mexico" stuck in my mind. I assume they
would require either a valuation by a NAMS or SAMS surveyor or they might
take the average price of listed Westsail 32's on Yachtworld. You might be
able to think of a creative way to generate a bill of sale.

Based on it's current value.
