It must be July! Every boater I talked to this week is fed up with
two things: the weather and inconsiderate boaters. You can't
legislate common sense unfortunately. I just saw a boat drag the poor
waterskier through weeds close to shore - he is now covered with green
stuff and very lucky not to have a family of ducks pasted to his face!
And yes, it was within 30m/100' of shore so also illegal, not that
anyone cares.

Everyone says it's amazing no one has died on the north section of the
Rideau Waterway where the river is narrow and there are many boats and
marinas. Boats go fast and many are large cruisers that throw huge
wakes while kids are swimming, and people are trying to fish and canoe
without capsizing. A matter of time before someone gets killed.

Narrow is right ... and when one of those "go fast" boats comes at
you on the wrong side of the marker, be thankful that the riverbed is
muck.

Speaking of fast boats, I heard a rumour that the poker run went the
wrong way down the St. Lawrence when 'My Way' had some trouble and
wasn't leading the way as usual. The other boats obviously just
followed the new lead boat. Rocks are pretty common if you leave the
channels around this area! At that speed you could end up lost in
about 2 minutes!
