Apologies in advance for cross posting, and for campaigning.

Some of you may know the Scout boat centre at Longridge on the Thames. This is where young folk can get a taste for al manner of boating activities paddle, sail and motor.

Unfortunately due to insurance problems (Flooding) it is now at risk from closure.
This is not the only option, it can be kept open if the will is there.
If you have time please go to there website and send an email of support. the link on this page http://www.longridge.org.uk/SBC/LatestNews.htm will fill all the bits in for your email program you just need to type in your own words.

Have a look at the rest of the website to see what a good job they do.
I am in no way connected with Longridge, just a concerned youth leader and parent.
Many thanks
Nigel

I spent many happy days there as a scout. I am not surprised the site has a
problem it talks about customers etc and justifies why it is failing and
having to close. It isnt a business and the scout movement was never meant
for defeatist attitudes all the successful groups I knew had one common
factor good positive ATTITUDE!

"The Scout Association has a "plan", this is to improve the facilities
for scouts in the future...

The plan will create 3 centres of excellence and dispose of the other
11 sites it currently owns. This is to be achieved in various ways
some of which involve a financial gain to the Scout Association to be
used to fund the “3 centres of excellenceâ€"

This means in simple English that the Scout Association is going to
flog off 8 sites?

I think that is such bad news and the sort of thinking that emminates from
accountants rather than creators! But I fear it is a growth culture in the
UK. Everything it seems has to be safe, measured to death, meet ideals laid
down by god knows who, and be able to prove no one is to blame for anyhting
let alone accountable. Oh I nearly forgot if you cant do it spend a fortune
proving you cant becasue you are under resourced or underfunded!

A few years after finishing scouting (many many years ago) a friend of mine
was appalled to find our old group falling apart so he decided to put it
back on its feet. He phoned up me and another friend up as assistant
dogsbodies (actually we were qualified as asl's) but he was the organisor
and motivator! Within a year he had got the numbers of scouts back up to
strength, put in place strong background support from the church and parents
association and enthused others to carry onthe good work.. He started with
nothing more than enthusiasm and the will to succeed! Funnily enough he was
successful in business too!!
