I have my 14' boat registered in Toronto custom/vessel office a year ago
when I bought it, but I think (not sure) I gave them the serial number of my
motor 15HP and trailer too. Wondering if I upgrade my motor, do I have to
notify them to update my ownership license?

Really good question.

I know the answer un-officially, no one I know of would. If I had to guess,
logically the trailer is of no interest to them but you obviously do have to
register the trailer change with the MTO. I can't see how Customs could
care about the engine, however legally I would not be the least bit
surprised if the law stated you are supposed to update your information..

I just phoned the Customs office in Ottawa (613-991-0520) and to my surprise
they said you do not have to re-register a new motor.

Why am I surprized ... living in Toronto you could shoot across to the
states buy a new motor and return to Canada in a registered boat and no one
is any the wiser.

: Until you arrive back in Canada and a Customs Officer ask you. "Did you
make any purchases in the USA?" or Do you have anything to declare?"
Do not forget that US Customs/ INS AND Canadian Customs exchange
information on a regular basis.(same software or integrated ?)
That's why your boat has a registration number Wink
