Very new to this great sport, got 3 hours so far...
I just bought a 95 GTX 3 seater. And a 98 GSX Ltd. 2 seater.
Lots of fun.
Looks like new!
On the 95 GTX there is NO key and there is no DESS, the
lanyard only presses down a push button.
Question: How do I "try" to prevent this ski from being stolen... I
realize any boat can be towed away... but with this one, a piece of
duct tape on the button and your off...
What is the solution?
I thought about mounting a toggle or a key switch in some out of the
way location and using it when we park for the night.
Is this the only solution?
Your insight is greatly appreciated! >> Stay informed about: Newbie - Stolen PWC |

I have a few New Ski Locs available... these attach under the ski to the
drive shaft and prevent the ski from being lifted from the trailer.
$ 25.00

You're on the right track with a switch....
There ARE a few companies that make aftermarket digital keypads and such
that you could get but they're kinda pricey.
you could mount a key operated switch under the hood, or under the seat.
how well you hide it, and install it will determine how long it might take a
thief to disable it though!
Seadoo also SOLD a DESS retrofit kit, but IIRC it is for 96 up ski's (could
be wrong about that) but, again it was expensive!
FWIW Most skis that I have ever seen swiped are stolen on land anyway. you
should make sure to keep the trailer secured, and maybe lock the ski to the
trailer if it is stored outside.
Have fun with your skis!

Somebody makes a cover for that. I have one on my kids 95 SPI. Wish I
could help more but it was on there when I bought it. It's a nice stainless
steel cover that has a lock hoop on it for a small lock. Again, it CAN be
defeated with a hammer and few tools, but it just might be enough of a
problem to deter a thief.

I could send you a locking cover for that tether switch. It is made of
stainless steel and completely covers the switch so they cannot steal your
boat using the motor.
$35.00, call 626 914 9509

I have one of them Ski Locks. Let me just say that you need to be careful.
They need to be taken off before towing the ski anywhere as the Ski will
bounce on the trailer a little and the lock is hooked on the Drive shaft of
the ski and could cause problems with a bent drive shaft and/or screwed up
pump. I normally remember to take it off, but a couple times I forgot,
and the Last time about a month ago, I just completely forgot and went to
the lake, and when I went to launch the ski the Trailer was floating in the
water!! Took me a second to realize what was going on. Had to go back up
and then remove the lock. I went out riding but I had a bit of a
Vibration. 2 Weeks later I went out again, and after about half a tank of
gas, my ski wouldn't go above 20mph without badly Cavitating. I made it
back to the Launch ramp. A few days later I checked out my ski and sure
enough the Jet Pump was Shot. I ended up replacing just about
everything,(Good time to get myself a Skat-Trak Impeller though). Anyway a
grand later doing all the work myself, I got it all back together Saturday
and went out riding Sunday. Running Great once again.
I don't know if I'll continue to use that lock or just use something
different. Some days I'm just in such a rush I end up forgetting
something. That was a costly mistake.

That reminds me of what I did years ago
I was concerned about my 2 skis getting swiped, so I ran a 10' cable through
the trailer, up into the the grate of 1 ski, and then I put a long-shackle
padlock around the driveshaft of the 2nd ski, and locked the cable end up in
the intake.
So when summer came around, I climbed under, and unlocked it. pulled the
cable out, and forgot about the lock!
So, I go and launch the ski, and make it out past the no-wake zone just
fine. Then I nailed it and it started vibrating like crazy.and all of a
sudden, a big THUNK !
I figured I had sucked up a rock, and processed it through the pump. I
limped back to shore, and rolled it on the side, and sure enough the prop
was MANGLED !
It wasn't until I had pulled the pump out, that it dawned on me what a
buffoon I was.. Well anyway, it gave me an excuse to upgrade the impeller !
I had to replace the gouged up wear ring too, but after that, all was well.
D'Oh !

I have 2 of them. I lock the front tow hook to the trailer and lock the
rear tow hook to the trialer. I use cable locks, big thick ones. I lock
the trailer by covering the tow receptacle with a locking cover and running
a cable lock through the wheel and wrapping it around twice. Can's move the
trailer, the wheel locks up.
