Archived from groups: rec>sport>jetski (more info?)

I'm just learning about PWC and I was looking at purchasing a Sea-Doo
97 GTX LTD with 50 hours.

I wanted to ride it first and when the guy put it in the water for the
test, he sucked up a rock about 3" in diameter and broke the drive
shaft...

Does this sound right?

I was there and saw the rock and all, but it seems to me that there
would be a less costly part that would break, shear pin or similar, I
am assuming sucking up foreign objects happens all too frequently...

Or is the broken shaft a sign of bad maintenence?

Any insight is appreciated!

thanks-

If it bound just right the shaft will break. Usually the splines will
strip also so make the PTO and impeller are checked.
