Hi Group.
What is the difference between an automotive oil filter and a marine oil
filter for an inboard engine? The only one I have heard is that there is
an internal anti-siphon (check-valve) in the marine one. Is this true
and how important is this for an application where the oil filter is
mounted near the top of the engine (ie remote filter)
There is at least a 3 fold difference in cost as well.
Thanks in advance for any info.
Kevin

Every I/O that I had used a marine oil filter but I caught the marina
ordering it from a auto place and charging me for OMC part number but
selling me the 3 dollar automotive filter so I have used the auto ones
since.

I have OMC engines and have used the "automotive" type filters for the last
11 years and there is no problems at all.
The marine mechanic, where I have my boat serviced, has noticed not problems
either.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the info, when I got the boat used last year I noticed that
the oil filters were PH 13A and they had been installed by a marina, not
the one I am at.
I think I'll save myself about $20 ($13.75 ea for marine ones, I need 2)
and go the auto route. Also, FYI, I bought the 25W-50 oil at Crappy for
$20/ 5 liters, compared to $26 at my marina.
Thanks again.
Kevin
