Hi all,
I bought a nice Johnson 15hp outboard for my zodiac. I want to get a good
lock for it.
I live in the UK. I read some good reviews for a lock made by Sea Cure
(clamp lock £40).

Any suggestions welcome,
Thanks
Viktor

Buy a stainless 12mm bolt, about 30mm longer than the others through the
transom.
File or grind a flat on it.
Drill a 6.5 mm hole through.
Fit a stainless disc type padlock for about £5.
Yes, anyone determined will get past it, but so they will with anything
else. I have even heard of transoms being chopped with chainsaws, all you
can do is slow them down, or hope they move on to an easier subject.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Here's what I ended up doing:

got a master lock compass clamp lock. The casing is hardened and very tough.
However, the brass lock on it is useless so I replaced it with a Pro Series
Boron Alloy padlock.
I think that this combo means that it will be necessary to use a chainsaw to
nick my outboard Smile

Roddytoo is right, we had a multicat moored in the middle of the
reservoir at the end of Heathrow airport, and even though the key was
hanging 2 feet away, they broke the door in, stole everything they could get
their hands on, including outboards. The electronic equipment was ripped out
and thrown over the side, how they got the wheelbarrow ashore no one has
figured out yet. There were no there boats on the water, and the water so
polluted if you went in hospitalisation is insisted upon.
All this comes to a point is you can only slow them down, theres no way
of stopping them. And we can all sit bit and hope that there were a couple
of bastards vomiting voilently for a week or 3 after they swam back.

Life goes on eh :~)
