Do tell, my OI friend.

It already is.... and that isn't funny. Areas of Little River and ICW
at Lockwood Folly are already closed to commercial traffic during
times other than high tide or by permission only.
The last time I transited the Lockwood Folly area at low tide the
middle of the ICW was 3.8 feet.
http://www.atlintracoastal.org/Alerts/Lockwood.htm
Last time, I told you about rumors turning the area near Provision
Company into condos....
Here's the scoop.... (Provision Company is now open, by the way.)
I'll start in the middle and work toward both ends.
American Fish and Provision Company look secure.
The area immediately upriver from Provision and adjacent to American
Fish, has been cleaned up and the little cinder block building has
been painted and repaired.
Mr P's Bistro is no more. They have torn away the kitchen, extended
that part of the roof and I'm going to guess that they are moving the
kitchen back toward the street... maybe to give more seating room.
They have sanded the floors and are repairing and/or replacing siding.
I don't know what else. I was told that it will re-open as BoJo's.
Land upriver from there.... I don't know. It was supposedly bought,
too, (all of this by the same person). Changes could take place as
far away as the City Park at Ship's Chandler. Problem is, nobody
seemed to know exactly what *did* sell.
Ok, back the other way.... the Shell Shop has sold and is now a
ladies clothing shop.
Land and dockage from the old Shell Shop back toward the harbor
appears to have sold as far back as, and including, the Shrimp House,
which is now Fishy-Fishy... still a restaurant. It is impossible to
tell what else in that row did/didn't sell.
So, things have changed, but most of the important things appear to be
staying, for now.
Little River. Day marker #9, which is about the middle of the area
taken by the gambling boats and the restaurants... ever eaten there?
Good stuff!
Immediately down river from that point, a new marina is being built
Thus, that area should be accessible from the water. Although there
are shops and at least 4 restaurants on the water, there isn't one
single slip (even transient) to be had. This may actually be an
improvement.
Offshore fishing is supposedly really hot..... though it was 30
degrees last night.... b-r-r-r-r-r....

Holy cow man,
You know, the last few times I've cruised through there, I;ve
noticed the humminbird shows areas of 3' for a spell, I thought
It was me. Ever since, I have been nervous going through
there. Sometimes, I'll run down to fish "the wall"
if nothing else is working. My son caught a 10lb
Black Drum there 5-6 years ago.

Man, that place changes owners/names about every 2-3 years. Did they
keep the "dock"? <---if you can call it that.

The wife and I have done the gambling boats there. Its ok, My

Yea...same here. I've have already begun spring repairs/upgrades
on the Maco in preparation for a mid-May return to OI. I replaced
my steering hydraulic lines, (ouch...$160.00 for new lines). Havn't
fired up the Yamys yet. I'll wait a while on that. They should be
fine, I hope. I trust your new Suzi's are still happy.
Thanks for the update, hope you and family are doing well.

You might be right... I haven't seen them. But, on the other hand,
they may not be going there any more. Their son-in-law died there, in
a diving accident, about a year ago.... the daughter may have moved
back. I haven't heard.

Yes, but marginally, I think. Since one owner owns *all* of the
surrounding land, parking may not be so chaotic and iffy.

It was pretty stable until the people that owned sever restaurants
bought in... I think it was just an investment. This area has gone
nuts. Lots on my street sold for about $6500 about 8 years ago....
they are now selling for 10 times that much. Expect much more
speculation and changes.... especially as municipal sewer and a second
bridge approach.
Yes, thankfully, the dock appears intact.

We've never tried the gambling and probably won't as is holds no
fascination for us. Plus, if they won't let you drive, the heck with
them. We DO enjoy the restaurants there. Can't call the name of it
right now but one has really manly-man fish stew AND they play LOTS of
Jimmy Buffet. Still trying to get out of the doghouse for grabbing my
wife's hand squeezing and cuddling over, saying, "Aw, isn't that
special their playing *our* song." She uncuddled and gave me *that*
look after the first bar or two of "Let's Get Drunk and Screw."
Sheesh, after 36 years, you think she'd enjoy my sense of humor....
oh, well.....

Love 'em..... and for the first time in a lot of years I don't have a
nautical fix-it list as long as your arm....
>Thanks for the update, hope you and family are doing well.

>db~dreaming of very large fish in my box.
We're doing great, thanks.... and having a ball......
Ok.... bad times.... update.
I now have identified the two developers.... they are from Bald Head,
although one works in Japan. Apparently, they have bought everything
from the motel next to Ship's Chandler around to the marina. The
Potter's have sold out so all of that goes. American Fish is bought
and is building a new building (apparently on the QT) almost under the
bridge, but on the Sandy's side. I was specifically told that
Provision (by someone behind the cash register) would remain open.....
I am now skeptical I'll ask one of the (previous?) owners as soon as I
see them.

If you are talking about the Intercoastal Waterway then if it is any
consolation - it's condition isn't much better down here.
Last summer I was just through the locks at Matagorda Texas
on the ICW and even though I was just to the right of the center
of the channel my shallow alarm went off and I ran into a hump
of muck/silt. The sonar showed one-foot.
I sucked up a bunch of silt and my motor stopped peeing. I couldn't
get it cleared so I had to anchor to a convenient mooring post until I was
able to radio somebody at Matagorda Harbor that hooked me up with somebody
to come tow me back.
I got a professional guide to come out and tow me (booked a future
trip with him) and even he hit the damn silt (even after I warned him)
and almost fouled his new Suzuki four-stroke.
Cost me a new impeller too.
The bright side is that while waiting for the tow my friend and son and I
caught several keeper speckled trout (weren't biting everywhere else that
morning) and I learned how to Tripletail (caught a 22 lber and a 23 pounder)
with that guide a month or so later.
The Army Corps of Engineers is doing a really bang-up job... not...

Do you know what happened? I hadn't heard about that.
One of my scuba instructors warned us about the dangers
of open salt water diving and the extra training needed
to do this safely. He also mentioned that there are accidents
every year on our coast but you never hear about them.
I guess he was right.

So....
The days of the the under $10,000/lot are completely gone?
I was thinking of picking up something that *wouldn't* perk.
Thinking that the sewer system would be in place by
the time I get ready to build something. Waaayyyyy
down the road.
Thanks for the err.... news.
