I'm about to buy a 97 Regal 2100 LSR from the Tampa area. I intend to use
in fresh water. Is the salt-water use anything to be concerned about?

Obviously corrosion is the issue. The trick is how do you inspect all the
places where it is without being too invasive.
A quick place to look is in the thermostat housing. That is usually just 2
screws and a gasket. If that is a pile of rust ... run.
You should certainly look at all of the external hardware and whatever else you
can see without tools.

Wow. You don't give us much to work with. Is the boat outboard powered? I/O?
Freshwater cooled? Stored on a trailer or in a slip?
Come on, you know much more about your boat then we do, and you ask OUR advise?

Salt water usage CAN be a problem if the boat wasn't properly maintained.
But you will have to determine that, or ask a local who knows what he/she is
talking about.
Best of luck

Moored/slipped in salt water? Trailered? Need more info like the
Capt said.

Overall, quickie inspection - look at the zincs, lower unit/outdrive
for strike damage/repair, look under the cowling/motor cover for
rust/corrosion, etc.

If you have a trailer, then take it to a good reputable marina
mechanic and have him/her look it over. Could save you a lot of time
and money.

yes it is. If it wasnt protected from corrosion properly then the
whole drive may be damaged. Salt water will also eat all sorts of
fittings and such parts.

Get someone who knows what they are looking for to look at it.

If you dont have such person, hire one or look for signs of corrosion
and neglect and then still have a knowledgeable person look at it:

- no zincs or zincs eaten away
- corroded fittings
- bubbles paint on the drive

I can give you a much better, and simpler answer than those above.
Yes, salt water use is ALWAYS something to be concerned about. Now,
that being said, to what degree you need to be concerned, is up to the
many variables that the others here have asked about.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Nothing - something struck me as funny, but I can't remember what.

No biggie - good advice.
