I have a 98 GTI with the 717cc motor. At 40mph is simply turned off
without warning. The DESS beeps twice when I put the key in. When I
press start the starter jumps but the motor doesn't turn. After one
try I get one beep. The battery seems to produce 12 volts, the plugs
are new, lots of gas/oil, and the fuses aren't burn't. It has run
excellent up to now.

also make sure nothing is stopping the impeller or driveshaft from spinning
like a rope caught up in it or something

How do I test for a bad DESS? I get the famous 2 beeps when I plug it in.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Sea Doo GTI won't turn over |

I checked all that out with no luck. The impeller looks free and so
does the driveshaft. I'm going to try replacing the battery just in
case but it does not make sense to me why the machine would just shut
down when it started fine. Any easy way to check the load on a
battery? It has 12 volts but not sure how to check the amps.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Sea Doo GTI won't turn over |

I took out the plugs and hit the starter. It clicks once but doesn't
turn the motor, after that I get a beep but no motion on the motor.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Sea Doo GTI won't turn over |

With the plugs out, can you rotate it by hand?
You want to eliminate mechanical problems
before looking at electrical.

Check all the earthing points on the engine - seado is famous (or infamous)
for poor earth connections from the block to the battery or the electrical
box, and the symptoms look like that. try a thick jumper from the block
(naturally make a good connection) direct to the battery negative terminal.
If it then starts then you need to undo each earth ( there are more than
one, just check the engine thoroughly) clean them and reconnect securely. I
don't own a seado, but have seen plenty of them with this problem. Also
check the battery terminals are free of corrosion and that it is charged.

Where is the best place to grab on to rotate the motor? I removed the
cover on the flywheel but there's not much to grab on to.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Sea Doo GTI won't turn over |

Pull the plugs out, and you should be able to EASILY rotate the engine by
turning the flywheel. If you can't, something is stuck!

Anyone know any reasonable rebuilders in Ontario? I need a new crank,
pistons and bearings. So much for enjoying the lake this summer.
