Dear Fred,
Once again your consevitive ignrance is showing. Please becom famiure
with Jean Piget founding research in the area of cognative develpment.
Many have extended his first descoveries but all agree it is true.

Please take a close look at the last stage, Formal Operational. It
goes from adolecent upto about 22 years old.
Below is a brief summary:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Stages of Cognitive Development. Piaget identified four stages in
cognitive development:

Sensorimotor stage (Infancy). In this period (which has 6 stages),
intelligence is demonstrated through motor activity without the use of
symbols. Knowledge of the world is limited (but developing) because
its based on physical interactions / experiences. Children acquire
object permanence at about 7 months of age (memory). Physical
development (mobility) allows the child to begin developing new
intellectual abilities. Some symbollic (language) abilities are
developed at the end of this stage.

Pre-operational stage (Toddler and Early Childhood). In this period
(which has two substages), intelligence is demonstrated through the
use of symbols, language use matures, and memory and imagination are
developed, but thinking is done in a nonlogical, nonreversable manner.
Egocentric thinking predominates
Concrete operational stage (Elementary and early adolescence). In this
stage (characterized by 7 types of conservation: number, length,
liquid, mass, weight, area, volume), intelligence is demonstarted
through logical and systematic manipulation of symbols related to
concrete objects. Operational thinking develops (mental actions that
are reversible). Egocentric thought diminishes.

Formal operational stage (Adolescence and adulthood). In this stage,
intelligence is demonstrated through the logical use of symbols
related to abstract concepts. Early in the period there is a return to
egocentric thought.
Only 35% of high school graduates in industrialized countries obtain
formal operations; many people do not think formally during
adulthood.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

What "...intelligence is demonstrated through the logical use of
symbols related to abstract concepts..".means is a 16 year old can
follow instructions but when it comes to solving unusual or complex
problems (sometimes called judgment) they simply can not do it. That
is why many states have placed restrictions on 16 year old provisional
drivers. It keeps kids form killing themselvs and others in cars.

Be for you go shooting you ignorant ass off get educated
first............

Still wish him luck and will keep an eye out for the reports.. Here's
to him, hope he grows old to tell the story, even if he doesn't make
it the first time. This subject seems to really get folks going. As a
parent who's child rides motocross I understand that properly
supervised and followed, kids can do some pretty amazing things, but
this kid really has no safety net and most children are not
experienced enough to handle the unexpected and unplanned for. At
least at the track we can pull over and talk about tactics, or just
pack up and go home if it gets real snotty... Same thing out on the
water close to home in the 16 footer.

following the attack on Pearl Harbor.

He was wounded at the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, while serving

Graham later joined the United States Marines at age 17, but his

Maybe they wanted to get rid of him. Sending a 16-year-old kid who knows
everything out on the open ocean in a little boat is certainly a great way
to do that without attracting the ire of the cops and child abuse
investigators from CSI.

He's a CHILD! I'm not sure this isn't child abuse after he gets killed or
maimed or lost. If you send your CHILDREN into harms way, they arrest you
where I live.

He's a CHILD FOR TWO MORE YEARS! Ask any Dept of Social Services
bureaucrat hell bent on arresting you for slapping him in the face.

I've always wondered how a child became an adult overnight just
because he suddenly is 18 instead of 17. A child yesterday and
overnight--- a man. Amazing!!
