I have a 1978 Mercury Black Max 200. I'm not getting a spark at the
spark plugs. What's the best way to diagnose the source of the
problem?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you done anything to it? Does the starter turn it over?

Check the coil, points, and the distributor cap.

I replaced the tilt kill switch, but it did not have a spark before I
replaced the switch. It ran great last summer when it was last
started.

The starter works great.

It was a bad switch box causing my problem. Thanks for the advice!

Try disconnecting the kill switch. If still no spark, look for a 20 fuse on
the small red wire coming off the solenoid. You may or may not have one. If
that is good, try disconnecting the black/yellow wires on both switch boxes
and check for spark. Those will be the 2nd connection from the left on the
top horizontal row of connections.
