I agree.

Not as of right. A few gravel pits and inland lakes in private ownership
permit water-skiing, but only on payment of a fee, joining a club, etc.
Almost all limit the size and type of craft used and none even begin to
approach the size or utility of Windermere.
Windermere was the last unrestricted stretch of inland water available
to the public in the whole of the country.

This has been done to death before.
The argument cuts both ways. There are plenty of other places for those
who don't like to see or hear powerboats to go. There is, however,
nowhere else left in the entire country which offers powerboaters, and
particularly waterskiers, the same sort of conditions over the same area
of water.

It isn't just power boats that come too close to other boats.
I regularly fish on the sea and when I am at anchor I am often used as a
marker by yachts and they come way too close, in fact I have to yell at some
to keep away due to the length of anchor warp I have out even when I have a
lifting buoy attached.
I think it is high time a boat handling competency test is introduced before
you are allowed to use a boat/pwc of any type.
I know this will upset some, but just basic seamanship skills will reduce
accidents, better understanding of other water users and make the whole
water sport world safer
I will get off my soap box now
