What's happened to everyone? Why are there no posts appearing in this
newsgroup?
Did everyone get lost between 'uk.rec.boats.power' and
'uk.rec.boats.motor' ?

Its never been very busy here (or "there") but it is quiet at the
moment. Is the newsgroup seasonal, more traffic when we are all out
playing in the summer?

In theory it should be busier during the winter when no one is out on the water!

I know Blueyonder aren't carrying it yet and BT and NTL weren't last time I checked. They often have to be asked before they'll add it. Blueyonder are still carrying the old group just to confuse matters - but then they don't have the most reliable news service! Smile

I've been lurking and came across when I read the message about the
change. There are probably more lurking than will bother to post.
Err.... no I don't have a boat....yet. But high hopes, high hopes Smile

I was on the water this morning thank you. B#**%y cold it was too.

A great many people have their boats out of the water at the moment, maybe
it's hard to wax lyrical about scraping and painting.

Or it's just possible that nothing was broke and the ng name-change was a
waste of time...

Cheerio,

How? I've just checked again and refreshed my list and it still isn't
showing on either of their news servers. Which one are you using?

If it is on, I'll have to eat a dose of humble pie coz I've just been
calling them fit to burn!! Smile

It seems to me that uk.rec.waterways should be used by anyone who mainly
uses inland waterways whether their boats are engine powered or not, and
uk.rec.boats.power (as was) should be used for sea going boats. This new
group doesn't seem to achieve anything that we didn't already have.
Uk.rec.waterways already catered for motor boats albeit mainly narrow boats
and uk.rec.boats power seemed (to my untrained eye) to cater mainly for the
sea going power boats. My boat (for example) could be considered a power
boat (220hp) but is only used on inland waterways but could fall into both
groups.

Apologies I receive via news.individual.de the Berlin server. I use
this for all of my "boaty" groups. Excellent and very fast.

but I don't see anywhwere any restriction to freshwater.

You may well be right.

This week I encountered the first example of a new phenomenon which may
increase ng traffic.

An owner who decided to make a weekend passage to Newport instead of Brixham
because the marina there offered wireless broadband.
