empty oil tank and cylinders full of oil 96 900zxi

The ski was parked level for about a year, we went to check it out and found
the cylinders full of oil. The tank was very low. It was stored
winterized, and the oil tank was full to the neck. Is this a common or not
? if not what has gone wrong ?

While it is not common, there was a service bulletin on the DI models where
check valves were installed in the oil lines to prevent this.
