Hi all,
New to the group and new to boating, Have recently changed the
gearbox oil in my outboard ( evinrude 25 hp 1979 i think ) ran the the
engine in large bin of water yesterday due to not having it running since
september of 2003 and noticed oil floating on top of the water, having
removed the bin of water from under the prob i have noticed a small hole (
just to the side of the top oil fill hole) which is leaking oil. is it
possible i have overfilled the gearbox and it is just releasing excess oil
?or could it be something more serious? Any help or advice you can give will
be very much appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Al

If your gearbox is still full you do not have a problem. Your motor is a 2
stroke and you have mixed oil into the fuel. All of the oil mixed with the
fuel is a waste product once it has done it's job of lubricating the
crank-pistons-and rings. That drain hole is there to let the waste from the
exhaust drain away. Bottom line-- If your gear oil is ok--your motor is ok.
