I like Kaine's comment, "he can't count that high". That sounds like
something right out of rec.boats.

Kaine is VP material?

My point was and is that I think McCain is disconnected from the harsh
reality facing tens of millions of Americans and, worse, he doesn't give
a damn, either.

PS...his staff didn't know the answer either.

It's not the number, although with an ultra-rich presidential candidate,
the number is important. It's not knowing the answer.

My point was that Kaine's comment was juvenile. I think that it would be a
mistake for him to be Obama's choice. I don't see what he has to offer in
that office. His experience is lacking.

Very rarely. We don't have kids living in the house anymore. There's no
reason for me to be current with the price of a gallon of milk. So, I don't
have a clue, and I don't think it makes any difference if I were running for
public office or not.

I *do* know, based on conversations with my daughter who feeds two growing
boys with bottomless pits and my two sons' wives and their families that
food costs are going out of sight. I know pretty accurately how much they
all spend a week for food.

I think *that's* important to know, not an itemized grocery shopping list.

Ask McCain about the high cost of food. I think he has an idea.
Ask him how much a lb. of boloney costs and I won't hold it against him if
he doesn't have the current answer on the tip of his tongue.

This stupid stuff is nothing but political spin and frankly, it is an insult
to the intelligence of the American people.

Unfortunately, it's more. It's about power. Scaring the average guy,
promising him security and social welfare is a means of building it.

Personalities and individuals aside, I believe in a system whereby people
are guaranteed the opportunity to take care of themselves and their
families, to whatever level they aspire, in whatever legal means they
desire. Our social obligation is to provide for those that simply cannot,
for whatever physical or mental reason, do it for themselves.

It isn't perfect by any means, but we are obligated to continue working at
it.

One of my fears is that due to the rapid changes in the world today, the
global economy, the rise of the economic strength of other nations, that we
may be duped into the "security" mode of thinking and lose much of what this
country was founded on.

A wise general once said that "It is good that war is hell because
otherwise we would grow fond of it" (paraphrase). Unlike Hillary and
Obimbo, McCain knows this from real personal experience and thus might
work harder to avoid it. Knowing directly what it really is about
will allow him to make better decisions than those whose knowledge is
purely theory. Thus Harry is wrong, McCains war record is directly
and strongly applicable.

By the reasoning of HK (we gotta give him some slack, you know how
hard it is for those out of practice), Obama has no relevant

As it turns out John McCain doesn't own any houses and has built a wall
between his and his wife's finances. So, not knowing how many houses his
wife has is a good ethically speaking. But, you wouldn't understand that.
