Post subject: importing so called "home made" trailer from US
Archived from groups: can>rec>boating (more info?)

Greetings! A relative living near Boston purchased a trailer for me
without
papers. It seems in Massachusetts all trailers under 3000 pounds do not
need registration papers. And so, with the passing of time, this
obvious
factory trailer lost its paperwork and its VIN sticker on the tongue.
However, Canada Customs folks told me "no VIN, she no come in."
The only way left to make this trailer legal was to claim it was a home
made
and so now, we have the certificate which has no VIN, just a serial
number
on the paper.

My question. Will American Customs or Canadian Customs assume the
very worst when I show up at the border- that the trailer, lacking a
VIN
is stolen because it will be the nicest homemade trailer ever to show
up?

Any advice is most appreciated as I can barely afford the trip to the
US
and not to be allowed through Customs will literally sink my ship.
Please drop me an email!

Many thanks, from QC of NS
