My second hand engine has served me well so far.
However this year the engine started stalling at low revs.
It also stalls when I shift from neutral to forward.
If I avoid the stall by reving all is well.
What could it be?
It also fails to start unless I pull choke out even if it is warmed up.
Also, when i changed the oil in the lower gearcase it was very black.
The manual states this is a problem and that I should contact the service
dept.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Viktor

You may have left some 2 stroke mix in the carb. which has gummed up the jets.
take the carb to bits wash all metal parts in acetone and all plastic parts in petrol.
Usually fixes things.

Thanks for advice.
Is this a simple procedure I could do myself?
How about the black oil issue?

It sounds like the top oil seal, As long as there is no water in there I would live with it.
Yes it is something you can do yourself but if you are not used to taking things apart and re assembling them I would take it to an outboard shop. If you do it yourself don't be tempted to poke bits of wire into the jets to clean them (you will trash them instead), use paintbrush bristle only or just blow out.
All the best
