If you can get flex cables custom made there is no reason to put anything on
the hulls of the boats. Assuming you are using two roof racks, cut a cable
loop for each end of each boat that is too small to be slid over the wide
part the hull. One loop locks to one end of the boat and its roof rack and
one to the other. If the loops fit well, the boat cannot be slid either
forward or backwards enough to get it out of them. I have seen this method
used on a variety of kayaks and it seems to work very well as long as the
loops are properly sized.
You will need to find someone who can use crimps to custom make the cable
loops but many repair shops for motorboats and sailboats have the ability to
do this. If you have a choice, make sure they use the high strength,
hardened "security" crimps on the cables. "Soft" crimps can be a point of
vulnerability.
