hey
i have a gp 1200
it makes a very bad rattleing noise around the intermediate shaft area at
idle
if i bring the idle up to 1800 it goes away, in the water it goes away ( under
load?)

i ve had the pump apart ( berings good in the back)
i replaced the intermediate shaft / bearing/ coupler
intermediate shaft is new as well as the bearings, seals
i replaced the pump shaft
whats left to replace?
the noise sounds like the nozzel when you jiggle it by hand ( real fast)
whats the chances of the brass " bushing/insert" in the impler duct being bad ?

help

Some driveshaft noise is normal - all my Yamahas rattle at idle out of
the water but as soon as you put load on it, it goes away. Make sure
you are greasing the bearing via the grease nipple located up top under
a little black cap. Other than that, unless you've been in saltwater a
lot, Yamaha pumps are pretty durable and I wouldn't let the noise bother
me. Pull up to someone at the marina with a similar ski and ask them to
let you hear it idle on the trailer and then compare the noises.

the ski has never been in freshwater.

i was thinking about loading the impeller duct with a real heavy sticky oil
( like an engine restore type )
instead of the 90 w or what ever is in there

thanx
