hello boat US! captain mark here. I'm going to use your forum to document my project as well as discuss it with others.

I was given a 1969 larson all american 18.5' runabout, an ez loader style trailer and johnson 85 electric outboard. interior stripped, new flooring installed, project abandoned. no papers.

the johnson motor is locked up, I'm selling it for parts, best offer takes it.

I bought another entire boat for parts, with a busted hull. It has a 140 hp mercruiser stern drive engine in running condition and alot of other stuff I might need.

according to the larson site this 1969 boat can be set up for a stern drive, so I intend to convert it and restore the interior, geared towards skiing, tubing and cruising Smile

I'm stoked. This isn't my ideal boat, I want a cabin criuser but it will be a good learner, and I can always find a cabin boat to put my motor etc in later down the road.

where do I start with getting a title for the boat/ trailer? can anyone advise?

really enthusiastic group you guys are, lemme tell ya!

I see tumbleweeds when I load this forum lol.

update:

parts boat is on my property and is being stripped a little at a time.

The 140 merc fires right up if you put some gas in the carb, needs a new/rebuilt carb.

The oil in the merc was a little creamy, gotta figure that out. The seller claims it's condensation from having sit for 5+ years, I dunno.

so some more details- the parts boat is a 16' searay, unknown year or model. I'm going to take everything I can from it down to the badges and trim- it has a plaque that says who it was built for too, thought that was cool. It was built with the mercuriser 140 and I bet it was a fun little ski boat in it's day Cool After looking at how everything goes together I realize there's not alot to a boat- this isn't going to be too bad.

picked up some plast-x polishing compound to try out on the project boat's hazy windshield. that's a days work right there lol.

total costs thus far:

parts boat: 600 dollars

fuel to get parts boat: 50 dollars

project boat/trailer: free

plast-x: 6 bucks

656 dollars so far.

had a nice day off today, spent about 4 hours stripping down the parts boat. I removed the speed control, steering mechanism, trim switches, horns, antenna, fuel lines, the things to tie the boat off with, badges etc. Another hour or so removing guages and wires and I'll be ready to tackle the hard part- getting my merc outta there.

I didn't have ayone to hold the other ends of the fasteners for me on some things, I did have a sawzall. I cut out square chunks of fiberglass around the horns and antenna so I could remove them a little easier in my garage. was neat to see fiberglass cut so cleanly- I expected it to fray and tear.

sorry walter- your boat is officially out of commission. It will live on in spirit by giving power to the 69 larson.

I can't wait to feel the speed control once she's in the water. I better get busy.

today I removed the 85 hp johnson from the project boat by myself including the speed and steering controls and listed it all on craigslist for 100 bucks obo.. ended up taking a good size branch off my tree in the process of removing the motor lol. the only reason I want anything at all for it is because I am doing this boat on a budget, but I want rid of it- if no one picks it up in 2 weeks for spare parts it's getting scrapped.

got that stuff out of my way, now I can work!

ideas I have decided to work on for the project boat: partial fiberglass or laminate roof that covers the front half of the cargo area, to keep the sun off. will double as changing / sleeping quarters, might make a sun deck up top for the ladies. Cool

twin fuel cells selected by push button, would like to have them below floor if possible. have two tanks, two vents, two filler caps, and fuel line need selector switch.

intergrated waterproofed 12 volt windows xp based computer with touchscreen very much like a carputer- will handle internet access via wifi and cellular dial up, play music and video- practically anything a desktop PC can do. I am going to look into gps for the boatpc as well. I have alot of parts for the boatputer already from an abandoned carputer project. too afraid to cut up my daily driver car. audio will be wired throughout boat via a cheap clarion marine stereo with am/fm/cd.

I need a classic looking anchor.

interior colors are grey with a navy blue accent.

today I started to remove the mercruiser 140 from the parts boat. I managed to get I'd say 3/4 of the bolts out. Pretty easy so far, had to take the exhaust tubes off to get to some bolts. I had to call it quits, have to get ready for work here in a minute.

I also moved the project boat into the yard to free up some parking for my cars. the more I have to mow around it the sooner it will be ready Smile
