Does anyone know if Toyota Matrix is long enough to carry a 17' sea
kayak? Car has a Thule roof rack; I also have a Hullaport kayak
carrier. I think most cars could do this, but Matrix is shorter than
the cars I used before and I am wondering if a 17' kayak can be tied
securely (so it will stand there for 300+ highway miles).

Any info is appreciated!

With ease. My Honda Civic hatchback is somewhat smaller than a Matrix and
carries two sea kayaks comfortably.

If you're dealing with a factory installed roof rack, you should look at its
load rating, though, if you plan to carry two heavy sea kayaks - two plastic
kayaks, for example, could weight about 120-130 lb and can exceed some lightly
made roof racks.

We carry two 18' fibreglass boats on our VW Golf and we've never had a
problem. We do use bow and stern straps for all but the shortest trips
though.

It looks funny too because the boats are longer than the car and with a red
car and one yellow and one orange boat we make quite the sight. Smile Smile
