We watched them paragliding in the Cinqua Terre. Actually looked fairly
easy.

They run the Appalachians quite a bit with gliders. IIRC, they set a
record something around 1000 miles. The guy started in Pennsylvania went
down to Tennessee, and returned.

The para gliding canopies are very delicate and susceptible to
turbulence due to their lower wing loading. Just a little bit of
turbulence and take the canopy and twist it into a not within a second
or two.

My last parachute had a wing loading of about 1.5 lbs per sq/ft and the
material was what is called zero porosity. And it produced a very rigid
airfoil, for a parachute. I know some people who weighed 200+ lbs and
were jumping 90 sq/ft parachutes. Talk about fast landings.
